About the Position:
The Facilities Management department is committed to planning, developing, and maintaining a safe, sustainable, and high quality learning and working environment for the campus community. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as the Building Service Engineer. The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude, an active, energetic mind, and a leadership style that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

Under the supervision of the Supervising and/or Lead Building Service Engineer, the Building Service Engineer will work with the tri-generation plant absorption chillers and turbine in the Central Plant. Operates, maintains, services,inspects, troubleshoots and repairs steam boilers, compressors, and cooling towers.Utilizes technology such as EMS and PLC logic to assist with duties. Works with a full range of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration,mechanical and related systems and components throughout campus facilities. Operates,maintains, services, inspects, troubleshoots, and repairs building HVAC, refrigeration,steam systems, as well as laboratory fume hoods, including balancing systems,calibrating systems, performing service calls, ordering parts, and developing appropriate preventative maintenance tasks and frequencies when required. Completes tenant improvements including ordering parts, design and layout, and job estimating, scheduling, and planning. Maintain a current working knowledge of building technology and controls systems. Performs water treatment and chemical analysis for the campus water systems, which include record keeping, testing,chemical handling and related duties. Other duties as assigned.


Essential Qualifications:
Two years of journey-level experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of boiler, heating, ventilating, refrigeration, and air conditioning equipment and systems or the equivalent combination of formal course work in mechanical technology and hands-on experience. Thorough knowledge of high and low pressure boilers, as well as heating, pneumatic, ventilating, air conditioning, refrigeration, and other mechanical equipment. Thorough knowledge of the methods, tools, and materials used in the operation, maintenance, and repair of such equipment. General knowledge of ventilation principles, thermal dynamics, and closed water systems. Working knowledge of energy management systems including the ability to understand and use system features. Ability to install, operate, and repair HVAC equipment and systems. Demonstrated high degree of mechanical skill equivalent to journey-level in one or more related trades such as plumbing, pipe fitting, electrical or air conditioning. Ability to read, interpret, and work from blueprints, plans, drawings and specifications. Ability to make rough sketches and estimate costs, time, and materials required for mechanical work. Ability ty to maintain records and retrieve data related to work performed using manual and/or computerized record-keeping systems. Ability to prepare standard reports, provide instruction to unskilled and semi-skilled assistants, and analyze and respond appropriately to emergency situations. Ability ty to read and write at a level appropriate to the position and perform arithmetic calculations as required by the position.

Special Working Conditions:
Must have the ability to wear a respirator. Working in confined spaces and in varied temperatures. This position may be required to work off hours and or weekends and assigned to different shifts as needed. Position will carry a master key. Position is subject to fingerprinting and criminal records check prior to hire.
