Definition:
The Athletics Department is seeking a talented individual to fill the position of Athletic Trainer.

West Valley College, though just minutes from the heart of the Silicon Valley, is in a beautiful park-like setting on 143 wooded acres. Our staff and faculty are among the most qualified in the state and our students appreciate the college for its friendly staff and supportive atmosphere.

The purpose of this position is to perform care and prevention of athletic injuries for student athletes; to provide education regarding proper rehabilitation and treatment of injuries; and to develop and oversee conditioning programs for athletes in intercollegiate sports.

Assignment:
100% of full time, 37.5 hours per week, 12 months per year, with anticipated start date of September 9, 2019. Schedule may change to include some evening or weekend hours, as needed. This position is represented by the West Valley-Mission Classified Employees Association (WVMCEA), Operations & Support Services Employee Unit.

Salary and Benefits:

Anticipated Hiring Range:

  • $5,516$6,017 monthly (WVMCEA Operations & Support Salary Schedule, Range 62, Steps A-C).

Minimum Qualifications:

Any combination of experience and education that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:

1. Understanding of, and sensitivity to the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty and staff.

2. Equivalent to a Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in kinesiology or a related field.

3. Two years of responsible athletic training or sports medicine experience.

LICENSE & CERTIFICATE:

  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid California drivers license.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid certification from the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA).
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a current professional rescuer (CPR and AED) certificate from the American Red Cross.


Examples of Duties and Responsibilities:
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Provide initial evaluation and emergency first aid for athletic injuries.
  • Determine appropriate therapeutic methods and use of therapeutic devices for athletic injuries; educate and demonstrate the use of various therapies and equipment.
  • Maintain health records for student athletes; compile periodic reports of injuries and treatments provided.
  • Provide on-site medical care coverage for home and visiting teams on game days; set up necessary supplies at athletic fields; perform pre-game prophylactic taping and wrapping as needed.
  • Maintain inventory of necessary equipment, supplies, and medication; order medical and athletic training supplies as needed.
  • Communicate with doctors, insurance companies, and coaches regarding student athlete injuries and treatments.
  • Coordinate and administer health screening exams with team physicians; develop and prescribe preventative strength training programs and rehabilitation activities.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment; clean and sanitize equipment as needed.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other district employees, and the public using principles of good customer service.
  • Foster an environment that embraces diversity, integrity, trust, and respect.
  • Be an integral team player, which involves flexibility, cooperation, and communication.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
