The Assistant Coach and Director will assist the head coach in all phases of the programs, complying with university, conference and NCAA rules and regulations. Supervise and manage the day to day operations of the athletic teams, including teaching and coaching on a daily basis, coordinate all phases of the recruitment process and provide meet management for the Willamette University Track & Field and Cross Country programs.

Work involves routine situations as the Assistant Coach performs a variety of duties and responsibilities in the University's athletic efforts. Requires strong interpersonal and communication skills in order to exchange information with others both inside and outside the University and may have an impact upon the University' reputation. May require exposure to adverse environmental conditions such as noise, extreme temperatures, inclement weather, and other adversities as the incumbent performs duties and responsibilities in both an indoor and outdoor setting. Will require travel due to varied locations of athletic events.

The Assistant Coach & Director will work full-time during the year. This position is an exempt position, 1.0 FTE. This position is eligible for the University's generous benefits package that includes: medical/dental insurance, prorated sick and vacation accruals, contribution of 10% of gross base pay from the University in exchange for a mandatory contribution of 1% by the employee, tuition remission, and holidays.

Duties & Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following functions, which are not listed in any particular order of importance or significance:

51% of duties:
? Assist with daily practices for Cross Country and Track & Field. Event area will be assigned by Head Coach based off previous experience. Preferred event experience: Sprints, Hurdles or Jumps.

35% of duties:
? Serve as Recruiting Coordinator for all event areas.
? Identify and recruit highly qualified student?athletes in all event areas.
? Maintain regular correspondence with all prospective student?athletes.

14% of duties:
Manage the distribution and maintenance of all apparel and equipment.
? Serve as meet management for all home Cross Country and Track & Field meets.
? Organize Officials and Volunteers for all home Cross Country and Track & Field meets.
? Additional duties as assigned by the head coach.

Required Qualifications:
? Bachelor Degree
? Collegiate recruiting experience
? Navigate recruiting software on computer and Smartphone.
? Written and verbal communication skills
? Superior organizational skills.
? Ability to set priorities and meet deadlines.
? Current knowledge of applicable rules and standards of the affiliated athletic conference, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), and, at all times avoid any and all violations of these rules and standards.
? Ability to demonstrate creativity, sound judgment and decision?making, be an effective problem solver.
? Leadership skills to mentor and develop athletes.
? Strong inter?personal, motivational and team leadership skills to work effectively with athletic participants.
? Ability to work independently as well as establish and maintain working relationships with other staff, faculty, and students.
Must possess a current drivers license valid in the state of Oregon and a driving record insurable by the Universitys insurer.
? Successful clearance of a criminal conviction record check.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Two (2) years of college coaching experience
  • NCAA DIvision III collegiate recruiting experience
  • Knowledge of Finish Lynx/IPICO timing equipment
  • Preferred event areas: Sprints, Hurdles or Jumps
