Simmons University College of Natural, Behavioral, and Health Sciences (CNBHS) is searching for an Associate Professor for the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program. Applicants should be scholars, researchers, educators, and practitioners. The ideal candidates must demonstrate a strong scholarly agenda and teaching experience and will join our current faculty who are dedicated to maintaining and advancing the Simmons Doctor of Physical Therapy program's strong national stature, ranking, and impact in the 21st century.

We seek an innovative educator with demonstrated excellence in teaching and a commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration inside and outside the University. Responsibilities include teaching assigned courses, advising students, developing and maintaining a strong record of research and scholarly productivity, participation in curriculum development, mentoring students through research projects, as well as service on departmental college and university committees as appropriate.

The Physical Therapy program at Simmons was founded in 1947 and has a long history of providing quality professional education to leaders and highly regarded practitioners. The faculty of the DPT program are experienced educators and respected clinicians and scholars who are dedicated to creating a learning community that values active learning opportunities, research and evidence based clinical coursework, small group case-based learning activities, and meaningful clinical experiences enhanced by faculty mentorship. High student performance on the NPTE, student employment upon graduation, and employer and patient satisfaction with Simmons Physical Therapy alumnae/i are indicators of the strength of the curriculum, faculty effectiveness, and student dedication. The program has excellent technological support in all teaching classrooms, and an expansive, state of the art research laboratory.

The CNBHS offers a professional DPT degree, Nursing degrees, Nutrition degrees, Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study and an interdisciplinary PhD program. In addition, the Simmons faculty members have access to the Longwood Healthcare community consisting of nationally ranked hospitals and the Harvard Schools of Medicine, Dentistry and Public Health. These institutions enable Simmons to provide unique opportunities for academic, research, and clinical collaborations.

Minimum qualifications include:
  • An earned PhD (ABD will be considered) or other academic terminal degree (EdD, ScD);
  • Ongoing scholarly activity that includes research and publications;
  • 3-5 years' college teaching experience in an area of clinical or research expertise, with preference given to teaching in the following content areas: cardiovascular & pulmonary, neuromuscular, and pediatrics.
