General Description
Under the direction of the Vice President of Academic Services, the Associate Dean of Educational Support Services will provide leadership, direction, and administrative responsibility to a diverse and comprehensive Academic Services area charged with promoting and delivering programs and services that enhance student success. The Associate Dean has the primary responsibility to build, maintain, and expand instructional support programs and the Learning Resource Center on the three District campuses. The Associate Dean will collaborate with academic departments, student services departments, faculty, and staff to support student success and completion of degrees, certificates and/or transfer to four year institutions. The Associate Dean supervises administrators, staff, faculty and student tutors and manages comprehensive educational support services on all three campuses. The Associate Dean will provide leadership for the District's Master Plan goal to improve the rate at which students complete degrees, certificates, and transfer objectives by integrating and aligning peer academic support programs. The Associate Dean manages programs and grants and ensures compliance with applicable laws, statutes, regulations, policies, and procedures connected to funding sources supervised by this position.

Job Duties
Job duties of the Associate Dean, Educational Support Services include:
  • Plan and coordinate the District's educational support programs and learning resources.
  • Direct, supervise, and evaluate assigned academic and classified staff and faculty; recommend for employment, direct the assignment of, and direct the evaluation of all assigned staff.
  • Oversee the District's Learning Resource Center.
  • Supervise the District's tutorial services centers and collaborate with faculty in the Math Lab, Writing Center and Language Center.
  • Supervise the development, implementation, and coordination of the basic skills program.
  • Develop and maintain educational support services at the Tulare College Center and Hanford Educational Center, and other off-campus locations as necessary and ensure that educational support centers meet the student and faculty needs.
  • Collaborate with the Dean of Facilities for the design, assessment and implementation of the new educational support services center.
  • Facilitate professional development opportunities for faculty and staff.
  • Provide leadership, supervision, and administrative direction to all functional areas of responsibility.
  • Prepare, monitor, and recommend an annual budget for assigned Academic Services component of the District and approve and monitor fiscal expenditures for all programs within the areas of responsibility.
  • Administer the review and evaluation of the Academic Services programs and make appropriate recommendations for change or improvement.
  • Work cooperatively with District staff, coordinators, managers, and administrators to achieve established goals and objectives for educational support programs.
  • Stay up-to-date and keep informed of instructional technology.
  • Develop and generate data and reports related to academic programs.
  • Make recommendations to the Vice President of Academic Services regarding outreach and recruitment programs.
  • Interpret District policy and administrative decisions to those employees under areas of supervision.
  • Prepare and present governing board matters, reports, and actions items related to areas of responsibility.
  • Coordinate program review and program planning for areas of responsibility.
  • Participate in and support the accreditation process.
  • Represent the college in District and State-level activities related to Academic Services operations.
  • Serve on committees as assigned.
  • Assume other duties normally associated with management.



Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Qualifications (Education & Experience):
Any combination equivalent to:
  • Master's degree in a related field from an accredited institution, and
  • One year administrative or management experience, and
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, social, economic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
Desirable Qualifications:
  • Two or more years of administrative experience.
  • Experience managing tutorial or other instructional support services programs.
Licenses and Other Requirements:
  • Valid California's driver license
  • An incumbent must be insurable at the "standard rate" by the employer's insurance carrier at all times while employed in this classification by the College of the Sequoias Community College District.
