Position Purpose and Overview


The Assistant Vice Provost for International Admission is a member of the Strategic Enrollment Management leadership team, reporting to the Vice Provost for Strategic Enrollment Management. The position is responsible for developing strategies that ensure that USF meets its international new student UG enrollment goals and assisting graduate programs in meeting their goals. International student enrollment goals are established by the VP SEM, in consultation with the Provost, University Cabinet and USF's BOT. To accomplish this task, the AVP International Admission develops and leads the implementation of strategy and appropriate tactics for the marketing, outreach, recruitment, selection, and enrollment of freshman and transfer students for the traditional undergraduate programs. This includes providing strategic direction for planning, management and coordination of processes, programs events, travel, and relationships with high schools, community colleges, counselors, students, parents, faculty, and alumni/parent/student volunteers. The AVP International Admission collaborates with USF academic and administrative leaders, faculty and staff members, enrolled USF students and SEM leadership team members and others across the Division of Strategic Enrollment Management to achieve enrollment and retention goals. In addition The AVP collaborates with the AVP for Graduate Enrollment and recruitment and admission staff within the schools and colleges on graduate recruitment efforts.

Job Summary/Essential Functions

The AVP International Admission will possess critical thinking and analytical skills to strengthen and lead a dynamic and enthusiastic international admissions staff. USF actively sustains recruitment and enrollment as a shared responsibility across the institution. The AVP International Admission will also strengthen collaboration across the University and SEM to grow USF's international enrollment footprint and influence. The expectation is that USF's International Admission effort will be a global leader.

Essential Position Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a strategic and dynamic international undergraduate student recruitment program while managing a team effort toward understanding and grasping the dynamic trends in student interest, recruitment, and admissions as well as the market specific to USF.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate marketing and outreach efforts to achieve immediate and long-term enrollment goals for new students. Plan and maintain a comprehensive marketing and geographical recruitment strategy to attract new markets and expand the student base.
  • Hire, train, and manage an international admissions team responsible for outreach, recruitment, application review, selection, and enrollment. Plan, organize, budget, assign, and oversee the cycle of travel, college fairs, event coverage, and recruiting and yield events for traditional undergraduate admission.
  • Develop a strategic and ethically grounded approach to working with recruitment agents, mange current agreements, and develop others as advisable.
  • Determine the value and best use of remote facilities.
  • Serve as active members of SEM leadership team, working with other AVP's to create a collaborative and supportive culture in SEM.
  • Ensure that international transfer recruitment and admission efforts meet enrollment objectives and reflect USF's distinctive market position as one of the few premiere private universities focused on the enrollment of transfer students.
  • Direct the application review process, including timing, file completion, and benchmarking of comparative and qualifying data to admit and reach enrollment goals. With the Vice Provost for Strategic Enrollment Management establish admission standards and criteria.
  • Plan, organize and oversee the annual cycle of recruitment travel, college fair and event coverage, email/phone inquiries, and recruiting/yield events.
  • Use university and outside tools, resources, and technologies for business intelligence, data reporting and analysis to guide recruitment and admission.
  • As part of the strategic recruitment plan, develop strong working avenues with outside resources, including but not limited to College Board Search, Zinch, Uversity, Cappex, etc.
  • Act as a professional leader in international recruitment and admissions, and communicate regularly with the Director of International Programs to facilitate dialogue about selection and recruitment.
  • Collaborate with the Athletic department on recruitment and admission of athletes.
  • Develop and manage recruitment and admission strategies to ensure that the University meets its objectives to enroll a diverse international student population.
  • Provide continuous monitoring of University enrollment efforts and adjust plans and activities as necessary to assure that goals are being met.
  • Collaborate with the Vice Provost SEM and the Director of Enrollment Communications in the development of communication plans, publications, social media, and marketing materials for recruitment of new students.
  • Train, supervise, and evaluate performance of international admission staff to achieve the objectives of the University's enrollment management plan through direct coaching and mentoring; carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with University policies and applicable laws.

  • Develop strong relationships with the high school and community college counseling community, agents, admission volunteers, faculty, administrators, and SEM colleagues.

  • Visit high schools, community colleges, and make presentations at alumni meetings, high school events, and related programs. This position requires extensive international travel, approximately 25-35% of the AVP's time.

  • Establish and implement policies, procedures, and standards for efficient and effective operation of the admission process. Assure guidelines and procedures are consistent with USF mission, goals and applicable regulations, and are responsive to the needs of staff and students.


Other Duties

  • Remain current on emerging technologies, innovative management tools, and admission best practices.
  • Manage the associated expenditures in support of recruitment initiatives and monitor departmental budget to ensure efficient use of available funds.
  • Represent the Office of International Admission and the Division of Strategic Enrollment Management on University committees, task forces and special assignments.
  • Represent the University to external organizations and associations and at local and national professional organizations.
  • Ensure high customer satisfaction with our processes.
  • Responsible for compliance and data integrity for international admission.
  • Provide actionable reports to assist leadership with decision-making.
  • Ensure that admitted students meet academic and other standards.
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
  • Provide on-going training to staff and promote both in-house and off-site training for staff in order to foster personal and professional development and growth.
  • Establish and communicate accountabilities and performance expectation for all direct reports using institution-approved tools.
  • Establish standards and serve as a role model for department and employees for positive attitude, attendance, and professional attire/appearance.
  • Actively seek ways to provide assistance to other departments in achieving operating objectives not necessarily under direct control or accountability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree; advanced degree preferred.
  • Ten years of progressively responsible positions in international admission with substantial experience at the director's level and with staff supervision.
  • Ability to think creatively, strategically and collaboratively.
  • Demonstrated supervisory leadership ability; record of successful team building and staff development to deliver of admission responsibilities, programming and services.
  • Excellent listening and organizational skills; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with diverse populations.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership; be creative and strategic; work effectively and efficiently with diverse faculty, staff, students and the wider community.
  • Strong customer service orientation; ability to interact with a variety of constituencies both on- and off-campus.
  • A valid driver's license.
  • Ability to use databases, report generators, spreadsheets, electronic presentation software.
  • Excellent listening and organizational skills; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with diverse populations.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective, collaborative professional relationships with peer leaders, diverse staff and faculty.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously; follow through, and meet deadlines.
