Position: Assistant Professor of Child Development and Family Studies
Effective Date: August 17, 2020 (Fall Semester)

Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Family and Consumer Sciences or closely related field with at least one graduate degree in Family Studies, Child Development, or closely related field
  • Degree at time of application or official notification of completion of the doctoral degree by August 1, 2020
  • Subject matter experience in: Family dynamics, family interactions or family relationships across the life course (Specifically: Interpersonal relationships and family dynamics with special attention to issues related to diversity, families of color using a strengths perspective, relationship-based curriculum, pre-marital relationships, etc.)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Family and Consumer Sciences discipline and/or experience working in a Family and Consumer Sciences unit or equivalent
  • Demonstrated potential for teaching at the college level
  • Demonstrated potential for research, scholarly and creative activities
  • Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population

    Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with current discipline related professional issues and legislation in California and other states
  • Graduate training in family studies
  • Experience in leadership positions in professional associations
  • Experience in using instructional technology
  • Experience in career and academic advising of undergraduates
  • Experience as an advisor of an on-campus student organization
  • Demonstrated competence in program and curriculum development
  • Demonstrated competence in obtaining internal and external funding
  • Knowledgeable about the National Council on Family Relations (NCFR) and Family Life Education (FLE) accreditation guidelines
  • Family Life Education (FLE) certification
