Position: Assistant Professor of Child Development and Family Studies

Required Qualifications:

Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Family and Consumer Sciences or closely related field with at least one graduate degree in Family Studies, Child Development, or closely related field

Degree at time of application or official notification of completion of the doctoral degree by August 1, 2020

Subject matter experience in: Family dynamics, family interactions or family relationships across the life course (Specifically: Interpersonal relationships and family dynamics with special attention to issues related to diversity, families of color using a strengths perspective, relationship-based curriculum, pre-marital relationships, etc.)

Demonstrated knowledge of the Family and Consumer Sciences discipline and/or experience working in a Family and Consumer Sciences unit or equivalent

Demonstrated potential for teaching at the college level

Demonstrated potential for research, scholarly and creative activities

Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population

Preferred Qualifications:

Familiarity with current discipline related professional issues and legislation in California and other states

Graduate training in family studies

Experience in leadership positions in professional associations

Experience in using instructional technology

Experience in career and academic advising of undergraduates

Experience as an advisor of an on-campus student organization

Demonstrated competence in program and curriculum development

Demonstrated competence in obtaining internal and external funding

Knowledgeable about the National Council on Family Relations (NCFR) and Family Life Education (FLE) accreditation guidelines

Family Life Education (FLE) certification
