Assistant Director for Library Services

Primary Purpose of Position:
The Assistant Director for library Services will assist the Director of Library Services in the daily operations of the library and direct responsibility for the coordination among the leadership for several departments. The Assistant Director will support the Director in the planning and management of budgets, strategic planning, staff management and special projects. The position serves as the primary library administrator in the absence of the Director and represents the Director as assigned and requested.

Minimum Education/Experience:
The minimum academic credential required for this non-tenure faculty position is a masters degree from an ALA accredited institution in the field of library and information science.
A minimum of 3 -5 years of academic library experience in positions with progressive levels of responsibility; a combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the responsibilities of this position may be considered in lieu of stated education and experience requirements.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Demonstrated knowledge of all aspects of library operation including extensive knowledge of contemporary library practices trends and emerging technologies.
Evidence of project or programmatic leadership and the ability to develop a vision for delivering library services.
Strong analytical and decision making skills;
Excellent communication skills: oral, written, listening and interpersonal.
Excellent organization skills and sound judgment.
Ability to work enthusiastically, constructively and collaboratively with others as well as independently.
Successful mentoring skills that empower others to excel and work well as part of a team.
Ability to interact and work collaboratively and effectively with diverse groups and to encourage an environment of mutual respect.
Ability to resolve conflict, manage change and work effectively in an organization in which change is both necessary and constant.
Experience in developing library policies, articulating share vision and providing leadership and direction towards achieving strategic goals.
