Overview:

Under the general direction of the Deputy Director of Athletics, the Assistant Athletics Director of Athletics Business Operations is responsible for the daily management and oversight of all accounting and budgetary transactions for the California State University, Fresno Athletics Corporation (Athletics Corporation) in accordance with CSU, campus and Athletic Corporation (auxiliary organization) policies. Ensures proper recording and processing of all financial transactions and monthly financial statements.

Compensation:

The salary is competitive and is negotiable depending on the strength of qualifications. This is a CSU Management Personnel Plan (MPP) position with an attractive benefits package which includes but is not limited to: a vacation accrual rate of 16 hours per month; 12+ paid holidays; excellent choice of medical, dental and vision insurance, long term disability coverage, life insurance; and retirement benefits.

Position Summary:

  • Reports directly to the Deputy Director of Athletics.
  • Dotted line reporting relationship to the Assistant Vice President for Financial Services, for all financial and budget matters including CSU and fiscal policy compliance.
  • Serves as a member of the Director of Athletics senior administrative staff.
  • Provides financial and administrative support to the Director of Athletics, Athletics Department staff and the Athletics Corporation Board, including the preparation and submission of requested financial and accounting-related reports.
  • Provides advice to the Director of Athletics on matters related to Corporation finances and prepare appropriate management reports for financial and business analyses.
  • Takes a leadership role andprovides education on budgeting, finances, etc. to the Athletics Department, coaches, and staff.
  • Responsible for preparation of the annual budget for the California State University, Fresno Athletic Corporation.
  • Responsible for being the principal liaison with University Accounting Services, University Human Resources and Auxiliary Services (for payroll processing).
  • Assists with the preparation of the annual Equity In Athletics Disclosure Act report (EADA) and NCAA annual financial data submission.
  • Responsible for the processing and retention of all contracts, agreements and MOU's involving the Department of Athletics. Manage and supervise the Athletics Business Office staff.
  • Ensures that the operations of the Athletics Business Office is in compliance with all NCAA, Mountain West Conference, CSU, and University policies and procedures including Title IX (gender equity) compliance.
  • Assists in the development of long-range financial plans for the Department of Athletics.
  • Coordinates with staff from University Accounting Services, to prepare monthly Athletics Corporation financial statements and narrative reports. Provide resources and assistance to sports supervisors and coaches as applicable.
  • Assists the external CPA and University accountant with the preparation of federal, state and local tax documents as appropriate.
  • Helps to ensure policy compliance with for expenditures, fiscal control and budgetary accountability.
  • Maintains positive working relationships within the Department of Athletics, University and the community.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics, Deputy Director of Athletics, or the campus Chief Financial Officer.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related field from a regionally accredited four-year higher education institution; and
  • Minimum three (3)years progressively responsible management/ supervisory experience within an organization's financial unit.

  • Knowledge of internal controls and segregation of duties
  • Knowledge of fiscal policies and compliance
  • Ability to update/draft policies as required
  • Knowledge of complex budget preparation process
  • Effective supervisory skills with ability to manage and ensure accountability and transparency
  • Collaborative/team-oriented
  • Knowledge of external annual audit processes
  • Provide management over the daily operations of a small business unit
  • Knowledge of accounting systems (i.e. PeopleSoft)
  • Ability to create, plan, and implement new work procedures and systems to accomplish objectives
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced work environment with frequent interruptions while maintaining a courteous and professional attitude in stressful situations
  • Ability to work effectively and provide budgetary oversight with coaches, administration and support staff within a dynamic and fast-paced environment; and
  • A progressive approach to the achievement of gender equity and Title IX compliance in athletics

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master of Business Administration Degree
  • Certified Public Accounting (CPA) license in good standing
  • Knowledge and experience in a collegiate Athletics program.
