The Department of Child and Family Science at California State University, Fresno seeks applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Child and Family Science, with expertise in early childhood education (ECE). The successful candidate will teach undergraduate students, conduct scholarly research, advise students, participate in outcomes assessment, and engage in service-related activities. Primary teaching responsibilities will include early childhood development and ECE practicum courses, and may include other courses in areas of faculty expertise. Service activities will include working closely with the on-campus early care and education program.

The Department of Child and Family Science is situated in the Jordan College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (http://www.fresnostate.edu/jcast/cfs/). The seven full-time Child and Family Science faculty members have a wide array of expertise, and are highly engaged at department, college, and university levels. In addition to our shared commitment to excellent teaching, many faculty are also actively engaged in mentoring students outside of the classroom. Child and Family Science faculty have mentored top-performing students in the Jordan College Honors Program, and in our own research labs. We are dedicated to providing high quality education to prepare our graduates for future careers in early childhood education, elementary school teaching, family life education, and social services, and for the pursuit of graduate degrees in human development, psychology, counseling, and marriage and family therapy.

California State University, Fresno has an undergraduate enrollment of roughly 23,000 and a graduate enrollment of roughly 2,000. The university is home to a diverse student body and a high proportion of first generation college students. Required Education: An earned doctorate (Ph.D.) in Child Development, Human Development and Family Studies, Developmental Psychology, Early Childhood Education, or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution. Applicants nearing completion of their doctorate (ABD) may be considered; for appointment, the doctorate must be completed by the date of appointment (8/15/2019).

Required Experience:
1. Demonstrated commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff and students from diverse ethnic, cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds
2. Expertise in early childhood education
3. A commitment to excellence in teaching, with teaching or teaching assistant experience at the undergraduate level
4. Evidence of an active program of research and scholarly activity, including scientific publications and/or presentations

Preferred Qualifications:
1. Experience working in a laboratory preschool
2. Qualified for a Child Development Permit at the Director level
