The Assistant Director provides leadership, vision, and supervision of a comprehensive Fitness program comprised of four fitness disciplines: Group Fitness/Cycling, Mind/Body, Dance/Martial Arts, and Personal Training. The Fitness Program consists of an average of 100 fitness classes, 1000 personal trainer sessions, and thirteen dance and martial arts classes averaging 25,000 participants each semester. The Assistant Director is committed to promoting Campus Recreation values of community, integrity, and development by creating an inclusive environment in department facilities and via programming to a diverse University community.

The Assistant Director is responsible for daily administration, supervision, and management of the overall Fitness Program, with direct responsibility for management of group fitness, cycling and mind/body classes. This position determines Fitness Program policies, schedule of offerings, maintenance of 4 fitness studio facilities, and purchasing/inventory of fitness equipment located in all fitness training spaces throughout the Student Recreation Center. The Assistant Director also oversees the dance/martial arts classes and Personal trainer services managed by the Fitness Coordinator, and administers the teaching of two instructional courses: the Fitness Instructor Course and the Personal Fitness Trainer Course

The Assistant Director is responsible for recruitment, selection, and direct supervision of the full-time Administrative Professional Fitness Coordinator, and serves as the primary backup for the Fitness Coordinator. The Assistant Director also recruits, selects, trains, and directly supervises 3 student Fitness Program Managers and an average of 40 student and non-student hourly fitness employees who facilitate participants and instruct all Fitness Program classes or provides fitness services.

The Assistant Director works collaboratively with other areas of the Department, the Division of Student Affairs, the University, and external constituents to facilitate events, projects, and to enhance the Campus Recreation Fitness program.
