Purpose:
Purpose:The School of Engineering at Santa Clara University invites applicants for one academic year adjunct lecturer (AYAL) position for the 2024-2025 academic year. This position is part of the Engineering and the Good Life program and located in General Engineering department. The teaching load will be for a total of 6 course equivalents per academic year - taught over 3 academic quarters. Salary:Dependent on qualifications; benefits eligible.Basic Qualifications:At the time of appointment, the candidate should have an earned Ph.D. (or equivalent) in Sociology, Anthropology, or a related field with a focus on the Social Impacts of Technology. Candidates should also have demonstrated evidence of effective university-level teaching teaching, showing evidence of excellence in teaching courses engendering interest and excitement through engaging pedagogical techniques. Preferred Qualifications:An understanding of the Santa Clara teaching model and demonstrated excellence in teaching at the university level. Industry experience integrating the study of cultures and society to the design and production of products is a plus. Responsibilities:Teaching duties include but are not limited to: Teach three sets of the 2-course "Culture, Technology and the Common Good" sequence for a a total of 6 course equivalents in the academic year Conduct all assigned class meetings and assign and grade class assignments and examsHold weekly office hours on campus and be available to studentsAssign and submit student grades to the registrar by the designated deadlineConduct course assessments as required by the department.Fulfill other instructional, academic, or service activities (e.g., department meetings, committee service, and participation in special events such as Preview Day, open house, senior project presentations, and department/school events).Start Date: September 1, 2024Open Date: April 18, 2024Open until filled: YesWork Authorization:Santa Clara University does not sponsor any visa applications for this position.
