Classification: Support Staff - Full-time - 1907 Annual Hours
Reports to: Senior Director of Academic Resources
Description: The Academic Strategy Coordinator is responsible for working collaboratively with the Senior Director of Academic Resources to provide leadership and coordination for academic strategy programming and peer to peer academic support such as general tutoring and math assistance for undergraduate students. This position actively partners with other service areas in the Learning Commons and student support programs across campus.
Responsibilities:
Academic Strategy Programming:
Collaborate with campus colleagues to provide summer bridge programming during the month of August
Connect with residential hall directors to facilitate academic strategy programming for residential students during fall and spring semesters
Provide undergraduate students with a variety of academic strategies to improve learning and success through one on one meetings or group presentations. Strategies may include but are not limited to: time management techniques, note taking strategies, content reading strategies, learning or study strategies, and organizational skills
Peer to Peer Academic Support
Connect with faculty to recruit peer educators and disseminate data
Interview, train, schedule and supervise peer educators for the general tutoring program and math assistance
Observe and evaluate peer educators each semester
Provide professional development and training materials to peer educators as needed
Administrative:
Maintain CRLA certification
Create and implement policies and procedures for assigned service areas as needed
Collect and analyze data; produce monthly, semester and annual reports on service areas as required
Collaborate with staff in Academic Resources on special projects, initiatives and promotion of academic and career support services
Qualifications:
Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor's degree with at least two years of relevant teaching or tutoring experience required; master's degree preferred
Two years of academic support service in higher education or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience required
Experience assessing and recommending effective learning strategies required
Two years of supervisory experience required, preferably in secondary or higher education
Knowledge of CRLA and NADE best practices preferred
Secondary teaching experience preferred
Math major or minor preferred
Technology Skills:
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
Experience with student information systems preferred.
Strong computer skills required
Skills:
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty and staff
Ability to effectively train, supervise and evaluate student employees
Excellent public speaking skills with experience in conducting training workshops
Ability to provide leadership and mentoring to student populations
Flexible and willing to adapt practice in response to student needs
Demonstrated commitment to diversity
Strong organizational skills and ability to simultaneously execute multiple projects
Excellent verbal and written communication
Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
