ASSISTANT COORDINATOR ORIENTATION AND NEW STUDENT PROGRAMS (Student Services Professional IA)

Primary Duties:
Position available for one year from date of hire with the possibility of renewal.

Working under supervision, incumbent assists with the design, planning, coordination and implementation of Orientation and New Student Programs. Responsibilities include: help scheduling facilities, recruiting and training student staff, assist in the development of presentations as part of the program, provide communication to student participants and guests before and during the orientation events. Incumbent will also deliver workshops for student peer leaders as part of their training as well as workshops to student and parent/guest participants of orientation; assist with the training of student staff to do academic advising as part of the orientation program; incumbent will assist with coordination and communication with partner offices including academic departments, individual faculty advisors, student service offices, and enrollment management entities. This position requires familiarity with university programs, processes, policies and services and the ability to follow a prescribed plan for the program. This position works in a fast-paced, deadline driven office with a high level of student and public contact. This position assists with the recruitment and retention of students and on creating a welcoming introduction to the university.

Required Education:

Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job-related field. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Special Requirements:
  • California State University, Chico, in accordance with CSU policy, requires that the successful candidate complete a background check (including a criminal records check/and or fingerprinting) prior to assuming this position. Failure to satisfactorily complete or pass the background check may impact the job offer or continued employment of current CSU employees who apply for posted positions identified as sensitive. This position is considered a sensitive position based on CSU guidelines. Incumbent is responsible for the safety and security of Level 1 data, sometimes also referred to as Level 1 protected data.   • The person holding this position is considered a General Mandated Reporter under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
  • Throughout employment in this position incumbent must maintain a valid California Drivers License as well as continued completion and compliance of the CSU Defensive Drivers Training course.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Incumbent/applicant will need to be able to perform the essential job functions (duties) of this position with or without reasonable accommodation. This position alternates between remaining in a stationary position operating a personal computer for long periods of time and frequently moving about inside the office. Must be able to travel across campus to other offices and buildings for meetings and events.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed in a typical office environment using standard office equipment. This position requires frequent interaction with administration, faculty, students, parents, colleagues and community members to perform essential job functions. Must be comfortable relating to students and the general public in both formal and informal settings while maintaining high level of professionalism. Service delivery can vary from individual sessions and group settings to large scale public presentations. Occasional overnight travel required for meetings/events.
