About the Position:

The Student Academic Services Unit provides activities and services which actively support California State University, Fullerton's missions by promoting the development of the whole student - academically, intellectually, and socially. We strive to create an environment where all students have the opportunity to succeed. The department coordinates the services of a number of student programs, many of which give particular attention to the education needs of low-income disadvantaged college students to ensure that they are able to successfully complete their college education. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as the Educational Opportunity Program Administrative Support Coordinator I. The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

Under the general supervision and direction of the Director of Educational Opportunity Program and First-Generation Student Initiatives, assists in the coordination of a variety of administrative and technical duties in support of the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) and the distinctive programs which operate within EOP (EOP Peer Mentoring Program, EOP Learning Community, EOP Transfer Programs, and Summer Bridge). Maintains calendars, monitors and drafts correspondence, and coordinates travel. Hires, trains, and leads student assistants. Maintains files and records. Oversees the front office and provides direct support in answering questions, solving problems, and interpreting procedures for students, staff, faculty, and visitors to the office. Coordinates special projects and events. Serves as Department IT Coordinator (DITC) for EOP and TRIO-Student Support Services. Other duties as assigned.


Essential Qualifications:
High School diploma or the equivalent and four years of progressively responsible experience in general office, clerical or secretarial work or the equivalent. Thorough, detailed knowledge of applicable university infrastructure, policies, and procedures. Thorough knowledge of English grammar, punctuation, and spelling. Thorough knowledge of office systems with the ability to use a range of technology, systems and software packages. Ability to independently handle multiple work unit priorities and projects. Ability to apply a variety of policies and procedures where specific guidelines may not exist. Working knowledge of budget policies and procedures. Ability to perform standard business math including calculating ratios and percentages, tracking financial data, and making simple projections. Ability to draft and compose correspondence and standard reports. Ability to handle effectively a broad range of interpersonal contacts including those at a higher level and those sensitive in nature.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.


Preferred Qualifications:
Several years of increasing responsibility in providing administrative support, preferably in an educational setting supporting institutional leaders at the director level or above. Ability to work effectively with persons of diverse backgrounds and cultures. Ability to work independently in the completion of multiple projects and priorities and as an effective member of a team. Experience in leading student assistants. Ability to independently interpret and apply policies and procedures and use judgment and discretion to act when precedents do not exist. Ability to troubleshoot most office administration problems and respond to all inquiries and requests related to work area. Ability to understand problems from a broad perspective and anticipate the impact of office administration problems and solutions on other areas. Ability to analyze operational and procedural problems and develop, recommend, and evaluate proposed solutions. Ability to perform business math, analyze budgetary data, and make accurate projections requiring some inference. Ability to effectively handle interpersonal interactions at all levels including highly sensitive interpersonal situations. Ability to use negotiation and persuasion skills to achieve results and expedite projects. Experience working with programs serving educationally disadvantaged students. Comprehensive and detailed knowledge of applicable university infrastructure, policies, and procedures.
