Job Summary
The incumbent performs medical and diagnostic activities in the field of primary care and performs minor surgical care for students. Physicians also serve as a consulting role in the delivery of medical care by other health care professionals and practitioners in the Student Health Services.
Furthermore, the incumbent provides services that are equitable, inclusive and provide culturally sensitive services that enhance the quality of campus life. This position uses a student centered and equity minded approach in all communication and service efforts.
Key Responsibilities
- Provides medical care by examining, diagnosing, and treating patients; prescribing medications; performing minor procedures; and counseling on health and lifestyle issues. Ensures timely follow-up and appropriate referrals to physicians, public agencies, or CAPs for mental health services.
- Participates in SHS committees and projects; supports Student Affairs, Office of Wellness and Health Promotion, and Family PACT; provides outreach and occasional after-hours coverage.
- Participates in SHS teaching activities, including but not limited to training resident physicians, student nurse practitioners and other students, as authorized by SHS.

Time Base/Duration of Appointment
Hourly/intermittent on call temporary position. Successful candidates may be appointed for a few days and up to one (1) year depending on the assignment. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.

Compensation
Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.
The salary range for this classification is $81.21 to $137.92 per hour.

Their ability to interact effectively with university students and work collaboratively across disciplines reflects a deep commitment to student engagement and institutional goals. They adhere to professional standards and all policies, clinician protocols, and regulations established by Student Health Services, including compliance with HIPAA privacy and security laws. The candidate provides high-quality care services grounded in ethical conduct and professional practice and is available for occasional coverage outside of standard SHS hours. Their dedication to teamwork, professionalism, and policy compliance ensures they contribute meaningfully to a productive and supportive work environment.

Education and Experience
Equivalent to graduation from a medical school recognized by the Medical Board of California and completion of one or more residency programs in a specialty appropriate to the assigned duties with increasingly responsible experience in the practice of that specialty.
