Job Summary

The Office of Precollege Outreach and Engagement at CU Boulder welcomes applications for Residential Supervisors (RS). The role acts as the liaison between the Assistant Director and the team of Residential Advisors (RAs). Like the RAs, the RSs are responsible for ensuring the wellness and overall positive experience of University of Colorado Upward Bound Program summer participants. Along with the direct supervision of the RA staff, the RSs position's primary focus is to provide leadership and compassionate care in creating a positive experience with a focus on safety and engagement. The RSs act with the on-site support of the RAs as well as support from the Directors. RSs also must implement CUUB standards and University policies to ensure safety and cultivate environments that are welcoming and conducive to living and learning.
RSs are selected for their shown leadership qualities, interpersonal skills, ability to delegate tasks, positive strong communication skills, capacity for partnership, positive and caring demeanor, and their sense of accountability. Selected RSs are responsible for fostering and facilitating a positive community among all residents, promoting a safe and comfortable living environment, and serving as a representative and role model for the University and the Upward Bound Program. The Office of Precollege Outreach and Engagement, partners with communities across Colorado and beyond to provide first-generation students and their families with comprehensive college preparation and social development programming.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

The responsibilities of a Residential Supervisor are extensive and require flexibility when working in a constantly evolving environment. Some of the responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Staff Supervision and Development
  • Directly supervise a team of 12 Residential Advisors (RAs).
  • Create and lead weekly staff duty schedules, including on-call rotations, days off, nightly rounds, meal check-ins, free time coverage, and study hall assignments.
  • Quickly develop and adjust staff duty assignments to accommodate changes in schedules or unexpected circumstances, ensuring seamless coverage and program operations.
  • Collaborate with and attend daily one-on-one meetings with the Assistant Director and/or Director.
  • Organize and facilitate staff meetings every other day, as well as daily nightly team check-ins.
  • Conduct regular, proactive assessments of staff performance and engagement.
  • Foster a supportive and approachable environment that encourages open communication with residential staff.
  • Communicate the status of tasks to the team to ensure timely completion and verify that staff is present at their assigned duties.
Community Development
  • Collaborate with Residential Advisors (RAs) to plan and implement activities that foster connections among residents.
  • Serve as a role model by demonstrating appropriate and respectful behavior at all times, including monitoring online self-content and upholding university policies.
  • Teach and model respect for shared community values, promoting a welcoming and inclusive environment.
  • Support residential staff in resolving group issues and maintaining a positive community dynamic.
  • Assist students in understanding, establishing, and maintaining CUUB and University standards and expectations.
  • Uphold and implement the CUUB Code of Conduct, O.U.R. F.I.R.E. values, and all University and residential hall policies.
  • Safely transport students using minivans and/or 12-15 passenger vans, in accordance with program and university policies.
  • Mediate conflict between students and staff using conflict resolution skills.
Program Safety
  • Participate in an on-call duty rotation, remaining readily available and reachable as required.
  • Serve as a Mandatory Reporter in accordance with university and program policies.
  • Address, confront, and document inappropriate or concerning behavior in a timely and professional manner.
  • Assess situations and make prompt, sound decisions during emergencies.
  • Ensure students comply with all safety protocols established by CUUB and the University.
  • Follow established protocols and procedures when incidents or concerns arise.
  • Report any concerns directly to directors regarding RAs or teaching staff.
Teamwork
  • Collaborate closely with fellow Residential Advisors, Teaching Staff, and Program Directors.
  • Establish and maintain positive, professional communication with University staff and other program coordinators.
  • Collaborate with students, Residential Advisors (RAs), and program directors to cultivate a community built on mutual respect and belonging.
  • Empower and support RA staff, supervisors, and directors in their roles.
  • Practice positive workplace relationships with fellow staff and other program coordinators.
  • Effectively engage and build meaningful connections with staff, students, and other program participants.
  • Use the strength of the CUUB team by seeking help, sharing concerns, and collaborating with staff and supervisors, reinforcing a culture of support, accountability, and teamwork.
Administrative
  • Assist the Director and Assistant Director with projects and program documentation.
  • Update and maintain the Blumen database.
  • Perform copying, filing, and other administrative tasks as needed.
  • Design and create program flyers and itineraries.
  • Print weekly schedules, meeting agendas, and other program materials.
  • Prepare and distribute meeting agendas on days when the Residential Supervisor (RS) facilitates staff meetings.


What You Should Know

  • This is a temporary, full-time role that will last from May 29th - July 18th.
  • The schedule is anticipated to be approximately 40 hours per week. A schedule will be provided in advance.
  • Each RS will receive 2 days off per week after the first week of training.
  • This role must pass a University required background check.
  • Attendance at a mandatory week-long orientation before student arrival is required.
  • This position may be required to drive a rental van. Valid driver's license is preferred.
  • Commitment to spend the full 7 weeks on the CU Boulder campus is required.


What We Can Offer

The hourly range for this temporary position is $22.00 - $25.48/per hour.

Benefits

Temporary positions at the University of Colorado are not benefits-eligible, however, all positions are eligible for paid sick leave.
