Job Summary

The Chabot-Las Positas Community College District is seeking a PT Instructor, Music for Applied Lessons in Classical Voice for Las Positas College. Applicants will be expected to provide instruction in applied lessons in Classical Voice.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Provide weekly in-person lessons to assigned voice students;
2. Teach healthy, sustainable classical vocal technique informed by current voice science;
3. Instruct students in classical repertoire, diction, interpretation, musicianship, and performance practice;
4. Prepare students for juries, recitals, transfer auditions, and public performances;
5. Assess student progress and maintain accurate instructional records;
6. Motivate students of all abilities and backgrounds, and adopt instructional techniques to accommodate various learning styles;
7. Collaborate with music faculty on curriculum, auditions, and program activities.

Minimum Qualifications:
Master's in music OR Bachelor's in music AND Master's in humanities OR the equivalent.

Evidence of understanding of and responsiveness to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, racial and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practices within the classroom.

Desirable Qualifications:
1. Successful track record of teaching voice lessons at the postsecondary level;
2. Active record of professional performance as a classical vocalist;
3. Demonstrated engagement in ongoing professional development in vocal pedagogy;
4. Training, certification, or substantial working knowledge in a science-based vocal technique
methodology (e.g., Estill Voice Training, Complete Vocal Technique, or comparable evidence-informed approaches);
5. Experience teaching a variety of vocal styles, including musical theater and contemporary
commercial music;
6. Familiarity with inclusive and student-centered teaching practices.
