Job Summary:
The Office of Orientation & Transition's primary focus is to assist new students and their families as they transition to the University through comprehensive programming that takes place throughout the calendar year. These include Utah Bound Orientation (Students and Guests), Swoop Camp Extended Orientation, Weeks of Welcome, Summer Send-Offs, and more. To support these efforts, the Office of Orientation & Transition hires Graduate Orientation Coordinators to help facilitate multiple sessions of first-year, transfer, and guest Utah Bound Orientations. This position provides graduate students the opportunity to learn more about orientation programming, the field of higher education, leadership skills, and themselves.
This position will be expected to work 40 hours per week during the summer. Start and end dates are semi-flexible, but preference will be given to candidates who can begin on or before May 1st, 2026. The position is expected to end on or before August 1st, 2026. This position reports to and assists the Assistant Director of Orientation & Transition.
Responsibilities
Job Responsibilities:
This position will be expected to work 40 hours per week, and execute the following duties and responsibilities:
- Represent the Office of Orientation & Transition, Enrollment Management, the Division of Academic Affairs, and the University of Utah with professionalism and good judgment.
- Responsible for making decisions (in partnership with leadership team) related to programming in an effective and conscientious manner.
- Co-supervise Orientation Leaders with Assistant Director.
- Participate in implementation of Utah Bound Orientation (Student and Guest) sessions for first year and transfer students each semester, helping welcome over 8,000 new students and over 4,000 family members to campus.
- Support Orientation by creating and supporting scheduling of Orientation Leaders, guiding and directing Campus Partners, Students, and Guests to relevant programming, and assist in organizing daily programs.
- Assist in preparing presentations, handouts, and related education materials for Orientation Leaders and programs.
- Maintain accurate and detailed event records.
- Assess and evaluate programs and events to identify improvements for future.
- Meet regularly with Orientation & Transition Assistant Director to ensure appropriate coordination and support.
- Communicate professionally and effectively with the Director, Assistant Directors, Accountant, Orientation Team Leaders, Orientation Leaders, Office Assistants, and all other stakeholders.
- Support training for Orientation Leaders (Orientation Leader Retreat & Orientation Leader Foundations Training).
- Participate in cross training and professional development to grow and maintain skills.
- FERPA compliant and maintains integrity with student, staff, and program records.
- Serve as a role model for student staff and incoming students.
- Other duties as assigned.
Compensation and Benefits:
- The Graduate Orientation Coordinator will receive a stipend of $7,250 before taxes | May 2026 - August 2026
- Stipend will be distributed in equal payments on a semi-monthly schedule
- Graduate Orientation Coordinator will receive private, on-campus housing accommodations | May 2026 - August 2026

Minimum Qualifications
Must be a University of Utah student pursuing a graduate degree.
