Job Description
The Director of Assessment and Accreditation provides leadership and expertise in advancing a culture of continuous improvement through the assessment of student learning across academic and co-curricular programs. This role oversees university-wide assessment activities, coordinates program review and accreditation processes, and ensures alignment with institutional goals and external standards. Serving as the campus authority on assessment practices, the Director supports faculty and staff in designing measurable learning outcomes, analyzing data, and using results to enhance continuous improvement and student success. Additionally, the position administers assessment management systems and fosters collaboration to maintain compliance, accountability, and institutional effectiveness. The Director of Assessment and Accreditation reports to the Assistant Provost for Accreditation, Assessment, and Curriculum Innovation.
Minimum Qualifications
- At least 3 years of professional experience in education assessment, accreditation, institutional effectiveness, curriculum development, or a related area.
- Demonstrated experience in designing and implementing assessment plans for academic and/or co-curricular programs.
- Experience with data collection, analysis, and reporting to support institutional effectiveness or accreditation.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to provide constructive feedback and develop training or support materials.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, and administrators across diverse academic and/or co-curricular units.
- Familiarity with academic assessment and accreditation processes.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and adapt to evolving institutional needs.
Preferred Qualification
- Master's degree or higher in a relevant field (e.g., Higher Education, Educational Leadership, Curriculum and Instruction, Assessment, or related discipline).
- Experience with strategic planning and implementation of initiatives that support institutional goals and student success.
- Experience leading or supporting program or institutional accreditation efforts.
- Knowledge of Minnesota State System policies, procedures, and strategic initiatives (e.g., Equity 2030).
- Demonstrated success in facilitating professional development and building institutional capacity related to assessment and/or curriculum design.
- Experience using assessment software tools (e.g., Watermark, Taskstream, or similar platforms).
- Demonstrated experience leading academic program, college, general education, or co-curricular assessment processes.
Other Requirements
Work safely at all times, which includes but is not limited to, participating and completing all required safety trainings, as well as performing all job tasks in accordance with Minnesota State University, Mankato policies and procedures utilizing appropriate tools, equipment and personal protective equipment.

Minimal travel required. The person in this position may be required to attend professional conferences to maintain awareness of accreditation standards and best practices in assessment.
