Job Description:

  • Job Type: Part-time

  • Hours: 5-10 hours per week; select Saturdays, 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.; 4-6 online office hours; other as needed.

  • Schedule: Select Saturdays and online.

  • Position Location: Concord, MA & Remote


Job Summary:


The part-time Research & Instruction Librarian provides instruction on the use of library resources and services to students, faculty and staff; advises students in research approaches; serves as liaison between Hatch Library and Concord site.


Essential Duties:



  • Teach information literacy skills to library users at all levels of the curriculum.

  • Provide traditional and electronic reference services, including the use of print and electronic resources, to students, faculty and staff of the University.

  • Advise students throughout the research process, including use of print and electronic resources, source evaluation, and other aspects of research and writing.

  • Serve as library-services liaison between Hatch Library and the Concord site.

  • Consult with faculty and administration of the Concord site to determine information-literacy and library support needs in relation to the curriculum.

  • Develop strategies and offer workshops to make students and faculty aware of library services and proficient with research technology.

  • Assist in print and electronic resource collection development and perform routine library duties including circulation and collection maintenance.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Library & Information Services, and Concord Campus Director (on site), as needed.

  • Attend and participate in required meetings and orientations.

  • Provide discipline-specific support to students, as needed.

  • Undertake special research projects as needed.


Other Responsibilities:


If you operate a University owned, leased or personal vehicle at any time while performing your duties you must follow all policies and procedures outlined in the Operations Manual. You must have a valid driver's license and must successfully pass the online safe Driving Course and driving record check at time of hire and annually thereafter. Additionally, you must report any driving offense, on or off company time, which causes a loss, suspension, or any other change in your license status. You must report this change within one business day of the offense. You can report this change to the Human Resource Department or your direct supervisor. Failure to do so can lead to disciplinary action, up to and including terminations.




Requirements:



  • MLS from an ALA-accredited program.

  • Reference and instruction services experience, preferably in an academic library serving graduate and undergraduate students.

  • Knowledge of electronic information services.

  • Familiarity with academic research approaches and information literacy standards.

  • Demonstrated progressively increasing administrative responsibility.

  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to handle multiple projects and assignments with high quality and minimal errors.

  • Demonstrated service orientation.

  • Ability to perform work with frequent deadlines and extreme amount of external pressure to complete assignments.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and students.

  • Ability to perform work independently and maintain confidentiality.

  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings when necessary, and online "office hours" as scheduled.

  • Ability to adhere to University policies and procedures.

  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.

  • General knowledge of the University's mission, purpose, and goals, and the role of the Research & Instruction Librarian in achieving those goals.
