Job Summary
The Pediatric Specialties Ambulatory Care Unit (ACU) is the clinical home for children and families seeking care across multiple pediatric subspecialties at C.S. Mott Children's Hospital. The primary mission of the ACU is to partner with our doctors, nurses and other providers to deliver excellent care and customer service. We are seeking a compassionate, enthusiastic, and self-driven Medical Assistant. This individual will share our priorities which include: high quality medical care, excellent customer service, safety of staff and patients, efficiency, employee satisfaction, stewardship of resources and the ideal experience for our patients, families and employees.

Responsibilities*
Provides clinic support to the Pediatric Specialties ACU, practices in a pediatric ambulatory care clinic setting.

Intake-

Reviews provider and clinic schedule daily with clinical team to ensure proper coverage. Efficiently and effectively prepares and organizes clinic exam and procedure rooms with appropriate equipment and supplies. Obtains and records accurate/pertinent intake information that includes preparing medical information and reports, medical history, medication information, allergies, surgical history, etc.

Direct Patient Care-

Assists provider during patient visit including routine procedures, taking and recording vital signs, collection/process specimens in point of care testing labs; able to confidently share test preparation with patient and family. Follows proper infection control procedures when cleaning and caring for all instruments and medical equipment, exam and procedure rooms. Prioritizes and multi-tasks to ensure optimum clinic flow; identifies holdups and notifies patients if clinic schedule runs behind.

Medication Administration-

Prepares and administers all appropriate medications using the five rights and by written physician order. Two patient identifiers are verified before administration of any medication. All medications are documented correctly in MiChart. Appropriate patient information sheets are provided to patient/caregiver.

Clinical Support Processes-

Performs administrative duties such as faxing, copying, imaging, distributing information packets, supply inventory, stocking printers with paper and toner, or other duties as directed by faculty and nursing.

Individual must maintain an excellent rapport in person and via telephone with patients, families, faculty, and staff within a team setting. Participate fully in the Lean in Daily Work (LIDW) model of continuous quality improvement.

Required Qualifications*
Completion and certification as a Medical Assistant, Certified Nursing Assistant or Emergency Medical Technician.

Contributes to a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, faculty, and staff by following procedures and protocols as appropriate by job function.

Ability to take direction from supervisor and multiple medical clinicians, as well as work independently and efficiently in a busy environment.

Responds positively to change, showing willingness to learn new ways to accomplish work.

Communicates effectively in ways that enhance productivity and builds respectful relationships.



Demonstrates active listening, written, verbal, and information technology skills; shares relevant information.

Accomplishes work in ways that maximize productivity and available resources while minimizing waste.

Must have good attendance record.

Desired Qualifications*
Experience in outpatient pediatric clinical setting.

Knowledge of UMHS Policies and Procedures.

Experience with MiChart/Epic systems.

Work Schedule
5 days per week/8 hour shifts. Monday - Friday

Background Screening
