Position Description

These area full-time, tenure track Child Development and Education instructor positions in the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences. Under the direction of the Dean, the assignment for the full-service week will be to teach any of the child development and education courses offered by the department. The college is seeking an individual who is able to assist in placement sites for students for practicums, as well as participate in any other professional responsibilities as identified under 18.2.3 of the faculty agreement. These positions are initially at our Fontana and Rancho Campuses; however, the District reserves the right to transfer from one campus to another.

Responsibilities

This assignment includes (but is not limited to) the following:
Instruct fundamental through advanced level Child Development and Education courses, which range from curriculum practicum to administration classes;
Hold regular office hours;
Participate in department and staff meetings; participate fully as a member of the Child Development and Education Program Team; and providing a safe and positive classroom environment conducive to effective learning;
Participate in college activities and serve on committees as necessary to maintain and improve the instructional program;
Instruct and assist in the growth and success of a diverse population of students through careful preparation of course material, effective teaching methodologies, and informed critical feedback on assignments and discussions;
Teach scheduled classes and perform related duties as assigned, including timely compliance with clerical and administrative responsibilities; comply with District and department policies in the performance of duties;
Teaching and practicum activities may include late afternoon, evenings, Saturdays, and supervising at locations both on- and off-campus.
And other duties necessary for the benefit of the students, the college, the community, and the profession.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Master's degree in child development, early childhood education, human development, home economics/family and consumer studies with a specialization in child development/early childhood education, or educational psychology with a specialization in child development/early childhood education; OR
Bachelor's degree in any of the above AND a Master's degree in social work, educational supervision, elementary education, special education, psychology, bilingual/bicultural education, life management/home economics, family life studies, or family and consumer studies; OR
Possession of a valid Lifetime California Community College credential authorizing service as an instructor in child development; OR
The equivalent (District equivalency form must be submitted at the time of application); AND
Clear evidence of sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Preference will be given to those candidates who establish the highest level of professional competency as evidenced by any or all of the following:
Community college teaching with adults;
Expertise with the student populations included in theChaffey College Equity Plan
Experience teaching children 0-8 years of age;
Community college teaching experience in a laboratory school setting (practicum);
Bilingual ability in Spanish/English;
Clear evidence of sensitivity to, and understanding of, experience in a multicultural setting with children and families;
Experience in research with young children and/or developing curriculum for early childhood programs;
Being conscious of student service needs for young children (health, safety, nutrition, parenting).
Clear evidence of sensitivity to, and experience in, working with special needs children and their families.

Additional Information

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Based upon the minimum and/or desirable qualifications stated in this position announcement, the initial salary placement range is $65,700 (minimum qualifications) to $93,700 (doctorate) (Fall 2019 salary schedule). Placement is based on the regular full-time faculty salary schedule and is dependent upon verification of relevant experience and coursework from a regional or nationally accredited institution of higher learning.
