Position Summary:
The mission of the Advanced Manufacturing Sciences Institute (AMSI) at Metropolitan State University of Denver is to educate the next generation of manufacturing professionals, at the Bachelor's degree level, by providing access for students in the program to production-grade, state-of-the-art equipment, materials and processes.

The Industry Lab Coordinator is an externally funded, three-year contract position (with the possibility of renewal). Primary duties include working with students out of the laboratories in the MSU Denver Aerospace and Engineering Sciences building. The coordinator will work with existing coordinators from industrial design, advanced manufacturing sciences, and engineering and engineering technology to navigate space, equipment, materials, and student work time. The coordinator will focus on project development and design work for industry or contract projects. In addition, this person will prepare students for industry positions by providing lab courses that provide hands-on experience with various types of mechanical equipment. In doing so, the coordinator will provide safety training and make sure that safety standards are maintained at all times. This person will report to Mark Yoss, Director of the Advanced Manufacturing Sciences Institute, with regard to keeping records of all projects, costing out each project, making sure that students are trained, and deadlines are met. A semester report of all projects and outcomes will be due at the end of each academic semester.

Duties/Responsibilities:
Work on Industry Contracts and Projects (40%)
The coordinator will supervise students working on specific manufacturing projects for industry partners. This includes developing a work and supply plan for each project and making sure materials are requested and paid for in a timely manner. Students will need to be trained on each project and coordination with existing lab coordinators is necessary to make sure that space is used in an efficient and collaborative manner.

Teach Lab Classes (one per semester) specific to industry manufacturing projects and prepare students for industry jobs (30%)
In this capacity, the coordinator will provide a training to a variety of students to focus on the proper use of lab equipment. In doing so, the coordinator will work with existing lab coordinators to offer courses that will meet the needs of industry and prepare students for the workforce.

Coordinate Scholars Programs to support students preparing for industry jobs (20%)
This entails working with the MSU Denver Scholarship office to provide stipends for supporting students (10 per year) to work on specific industry contracts and projects.

Other duties as assigned (10%)

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree
  • At least two years of experience in manufacturing or tested industry experience
  • Basic understanding of additive 3D printing and/or CNC machine operation

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelors or Masters degree in a related STEM field
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite to include Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Hands on experience with inspection (quality assurance) equipment, such as coordinate measurement machines and optical comparators
  • Experience using CAD applications, such as SolidWorks
  • Intermediate to extensive experience with additive 3D printing, CNC machine setup and programming, manual mill-lathe, and inspection/test equipment experience
  • Teaching experience at the college level
  • Training experience in the machining or academic industry
  • Five or more years of experience in the machining industry
