Job Summary:
SUMMARY:

Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, maintain campus classrooms, offices and related facilities and areas in a clean and sanitary condition; provide work direction and guidance to custodial personnel as assigned. Incumbents provide work direction and guidance to other custodial operations personnel and participate in custodial duties, or work independently at an assigned location.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Assign and review the work of subordinate personnel as assigned; train and instruct assigned personnel in the proper performance of custodial duties.

Inspect in-progress and completed work to ensure work is performed in compliance with instructions, meeting quality standards.

Participate in the performance of custodial work such as emptying trash, recycling containers, washing, sweeping, vacuuming, cleaning, dusting, polishing, and waxing.

Assure proper care and use of equipment and materials; issue supplies and assure that proper supplies are available to maintain assigned campus.

Oversee and participate in the preparation of rooms and facilities for special events, activities and meetings; move, arrange and set up furniture and equipment as necessary.

Report safety, sanitary and fire hazards and maintenance and repair needs.

Perform minor repairs to buildings, fixtures, and equipment; replace lights, light diffusers, and ceiling tiles.

Remove trash from shrubs around assigned areas.

Perform related duties as assigned.

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS:

Maintain routine records related to custodial operations and activities.

Order parts, materials and supplies required for custodial operations and activities; recommend the purchase of custodial equipment as needed.

Remove and transport bio-hazardous wastes for appropriate disposal.

Remove substances from painted surfaces such as doors and concrete pillars; remove substances from and wash walkways and stairs.

Minimum Qualifications:
EDUCATION:

Any combination equivalent to: high school graduation or GED.

EXPERIENCE:

Increasingly responsible custodial experience.

KNOWLEDGE OF:

Principles and practices of training and providing work direction.
Proper methods, materials, tools and equipment used in custodial and operations work.
Requirements of maintaining buildings in a safe, clean and orderly condition.
Modern methods of storing equipment, materials and supplies.
Appropriate safety precautions and procedures related to vehicles, equipment and chemicals used in assigned area.
Basic recordkeeping techniques.
Removal and transportation of bio-hazardous waste.
Telephone techniques and etiquette.
State, Federal, and District safety regulations related to operation of vehicles and equipment, and chemical storage and use.
Safe driving practices; California traffic laws and regulations.

ABILITY TO:

Train and provide work direction to others; assign and review the work of others.
Use cleaning materials, equipment and methods according to pre-determined standards.
Apply knowledge of the schedules, procedures and use of equipment and supplies used in custodial work.
Work independently with little direction; plan and organize work to meet schedules and timelines.
Maintain tools and equipment in clean and safe working order.
Perform minor, non-technical repairs.
Observe and report need for maintenance and repair; perform minor, non-technical repairs.
Lift objects weighing up to 75 pounds.
Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Operate a personal computer to enter and retrieve data consistent with requirements of the position.
