Job Summary:
The University of San Francisco (USF) is searching for a tenure-track assistant or associate professor to join the School of Nursing and Health Professions' Masters in Public Health Program at our Orange County location (Orange, CA) in the Los Angeles metropolitan area. The faculty position carries with it an expectation for excellence in teaching, scholarly productivity, and academic and professional service. The Department of Health Professions offers three programs, Master of Public Health (MPH), Master of Science in Health Informatics (MSHI), and a Doctorate of Psychology in Clinical Psychology (PsyD). The USF MPH Program consists of three concentrations that include Health Policy and Leadership, Behavioral Health, and Community and Public Health Practice (Orange County and San Francisco locations). The MPH Program at USF aims is to develop a cadre of public health leaders who will advance public health, social justice, and well-being of local and global populations, particularly the underserved and vulnerable, through innovative and inspired research, service, and teaching our Jesuit values we grounded in education of the whole person to be a change agent who strives for excellence in all pursuits.

The USF MPH Program educates individuals to be public health change agents by offering a student-centered program of excellence using innovative pedagogy. The MPH program in Orange County is accessible to working professionals and taught in the evenings using a hybrid format. We prepare graduates to synthesize and apply evidence-based knowledge of social ecological determinants to improve the health status of diverse populations, particularly those who are under-served or otherwise vulnerable. Our students and graduates engage in health programs and interventions at the individual, institutional, professional, community, and policy levels that advance and protect public health and health equity, and generate evidence to advance public health and reduce health disparities. Upon completion of the program, graduates will have the tools to improve access, delivery, and evaluation of health services. The MPH program is committed to the recruitment and retention of diverse faculty and students. Faculty retention efforts include mentoring, scholarship focus, clinical opportunities, networking and professional development, as well as university level initiatives.

Job Responsibilities

The successful candidate is expected to teach graduate level courses with a strong preference for candidates who can teach one or more of the core courses in epidemiology, biostatistics, leadership and collaboration, health policy, and program planning. Candidates will be expected to advise and mentor MPH students, facilitate and supervise fieldwork placement and the required integrated learning capstone project, lead an independent program of scholarship, engage with the public health practice community, and provide service to the department, university, and profession. Applications are welcome at the Assistant or Associate levels.

Minimum Qualifications

A Doctorate in public health or a related field is required at time of appointment. Strong record of publications and/or other scholarly products commensurate with career stage; strong record of excellence in teaching, with preference for the topics of epidemiology/biostatistics and leadership or public health administration; demonstrated resourcefulness and application of creative teaching methods to promote active learning; track record working in partnership with collaborators; service leadership accomplishments. The appointment will be made at the Assistant or Associate Professor level, depending on years of teaching experience, with possible credit given toward tenure. Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to work in a culturally diverse environment and to contribute to the Mission of the University of San Francisco. Experience in academic program administration.

Additional requirements at the Associate Level: Current appointment at the assistant professor level or higher; track record of excellence in teaching, scholarship and service.
