The LAS Student Academic Affairs Office is searching for an Academic Program Advisor who will be responsible for: student advising and program planning and management of the global initiatives of the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences with a specific focus on European programs and partners, and working closely with academic units to support the College's goal of increasing opportunities for students to engage in transformative global learning experiences. The position wil report to the Assistant Dean of International Programs.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



Student Advising

  • Provide academic and administrative advising to current and prospective study abroad and exchange students; Respond to evolving student questions and concerns related to study abroad and global engagement.

  • Hold advising hours and consult with individual students or groups. Respond to inquiries by email, phone and through virtual and in-person advising sessions.

  • Contribute to overall program marketing, recruitment and outreach initiatives through events and presentations.

  • Develop and maintain informational materials, website, resources, handbooks, and other content.

  • Compile and analyze statistics, including advising sheets for selected programs and majors.

  • Organize and lead pre-departure and orientation sessions for study abroad and exchange students, informational sessions, and health and safety presentations.

  • Promote programs and recruit students by representing the College of LAS at fairs and outreach events to promote study abroad and international program opportunities both in the U.S. and in Europe.

  • Facilitate one or more sections of LAS 291/292 as needed

  • Contribute to the experiential learning and career development components of the LAS student success plan through peer advisor training, academic advisor resource development and ongoing support.




Development and Coordination of Educational Experiences

  • Work closely with faculty, staff and international partners on the planning and execution of a European portfolio of education abroad programs, faculty-led courses, and virtual exchanges.

  • Lead coordination for College of LAS for all incoming exchange programs: serve as primary exchange student contact with university partners, LAS academic units, and UIUC administrative offices.

  • Manage promotion, recruitment, application cycle, budget development for international education and exchange programs, faculty-led courses, and virtual exchanges.

  • Collaborate with the Assistant Dean for LAS International Programs, academic units, and faculty course directors on program assessment and analysis in order to make recommendations for improvements, new programs, student retention, and achievement of learning outcomes.

  • Work with Illinois International's Office of International Safety & Security to ensure LAS programs are in line with campus policies related to health, safety, and risk management. Ensure partners and faculty/staff chaperones are aware of best practices.

  • Will be required to work nights and weekends if/when traveling with students on international programs




On-site Coordination + Partner Relations

  • Coordinate logistical details, including travel arrangements for LAS International Programs events and travel in Europe. This includes faculty-led courses, faculty/staff site visits, study abroad alumni network events

  • Conduct regular site visits to LAS programs in Europe to meet with partners, assess program locations, accommodations and student support, and advise Illinois students on-site.

  • Assist as needed with on-site support such as: facilitating student arrivals and departures, corresponding with embassies and consulates for visa purposes, course articulations, and transcript processing.




Alumni Engagement

  • Work closely with study abroad partners and Advancement to develop and expand LAS study abroad alumni networks across Europe

  • Work with alumni to expand Alumni Connect program in Europe and develop a portfolio of international internships and career development opportunities for Illinois students.

  • Organize and host alumni network events and faculty-led alumni visits in Europe




QUALIFICATIONS



Required:Bachelor's degree in humanities or social sciences. Minimum of 2 years experience in the following (experience may be concurrent): international education and/or study abroad; European work or study; student advising.



Preferred:Master's degree in international education, curriculum, or related field. Experience organizing multiple, simultaneous international education experiences. Experience organizing in-person and virtual events with international audiences. Experience developing web, video and other promotional materials. Experience working with study abroad alumni.



Successful candidates will have the following:Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, Zoom, web and social media, Terra Dotta Systems (TDS). Demonstrated ability and commitment to working collaboratively with colleagues and to work independently. Excellent oral and written communication skills, particularly those that enable the candidate to effectively represent LAS International Programs and communicate clearly with a wide range of constituencies including international partners, faculty, administrators, students, parents, and alumni. Professional fluency in English and at least one other official languages of the European Union. Commitment to diversity and inclusion.



SALARY AND APPOINTMENT INFORMATION



This is a full-timeAcademic Professionalpositionappointed on a 12 month service basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the closing date. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
