Position Summary
Reporting to the Manager of Technical Project Management, this role manages enterprise-wide projects and department-level technology projects within Information Technology Services (ITS). As Technical Project Manager, you will manage multiple projects simultaneously, working with technical leads and campus peers to design project plans that support success, build stakeholder engagement and maximize customer satisfaction. Working closely with project leadership, you will prepare dashboards, status reports, project documentation, and regularly present updates to both technical and non?technical audiences across the university.
This role operates within MSU Denver's increasingly cloud?forward, vendor?integrated, data?driven technology ecosystem. You will be responsible for understanding system dependencies, integration impacts, and data governance considerations to ensure projects are delivered smoothly and sustainably. This position is part of a broader project management career path which may lead roles like Senior Technical Project Manager and Technical Program Manager roles, which take on larger, more complex, and more strategically integrated initiatives.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
75% Project Management
You will be assigned a diverse range of strategic and operational projects, ranging in scope from software implementations (i.e. cloud-based and SaaS) and AI development projects to infrastructure and audiovisual system deployments. Specific responsibilities for each of these projects include:
- Tailoring your project management approach to match individual project goals
- Developing realistic project plans for the team to work against
- Coordinate with ITS teams (e.g., Enterprise Applications, Infrastructure, Security, Product Management) to ensure alignment with standards and roadmaps
- Identify and escalate risks early, including vendor?related issues, integration impacts, and data?quality concerns
- Facilitate cross functional decision?making and remove blockers to keep work moving
This role requires strong service and leadership ethic in your work, collaborative leadership, and the ability to navigate a complex environment with multiple stakeholders and interdependent systems.
5% Process Design
You'll collaborate with your manager and the PMO teams to strengthen and standardize project management practices across ITS. This includes:
- Contributing to shared templates and our Project Management Guidebook
- Partnering with campus departments to ensure PM processes align with their operational needs
- Helping improve project intake, prioritization, and transparency
Your work will help ensure that ITS delivers projects in a predictable, repeatable, and customer?centered manner.
15% Communications
You will create and deliver clear, audience?appropriate communications, including:
- Project status reports and dashboards
- Stakeholder updates and executive summaries
- Change?management?aligned communication plans
- Presentations for internal and external groups
You'll help ensure that project impacts, timelines, and expectations are well understood across the university.
5% Other tasks as assigned
Occasional off-hours, on-call, or weekend work may be required. Infrequent domestic business travel may be required.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree from accredited college or university
- Previous project management training in waterfall or agile methodologies.
- 3+ years direct project management experience in an information technology environment.
- Experience managing multiple parallel small, medium-sized projects to completion.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree from accredited college or university in Project Management, Business Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Experience in a higher education environment.
- Experience applying different project management methodologies and best practices based on project need.
- Experience collaboratively developing and validating project requirements.
- Experience independently leading medium and large projects through the full project management life cycle.
- Recognized industry certification such as Project Management Professional (PMP), Agile Certified Practitioner or Certified Scrum Master.
- 5+ years technical project management experience
- Familiarity with cloud platforms, SaaS ecosystems, data governance practices, and vendor?managed systems
- Experience coordinating with Security, Product, and Enterprise Architecture teams to ensure compliance and alignment
Work Hours
- Full-time, 40 hours per week, Exempt
- Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm
- Evenings and weekend work: As needed
- Hybrid

Salary for Announcement
We anticipate the qualified candidate to be placed between $74,944-$87,000. The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
The above salary range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
