Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Cashiering Supervisor, this position supports daily cashiering and financial operations for California State University, Long Beach by processing, reconciling, and safeguarding university funds in accordance with established policies and procedures. The position performs a variety of technical accounting and cashiering functions, including parking and payroll support, posting and balancing transactions, preparing bank deposits, supporting parking permit sales and parking machine collections, and conducting audits of satellite cashiering operations. Utilizing systems such as PeopleSoft Student Administration, Illumia (Transact-CASHNet), T2 Parking, and OTRS, the incumbent provides responsive customer service to students, faculty, staff, and campus departments by analyzing student accounts, processing payments and deposits, and assisting with payment agreements while ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficient service delivery.
Key Responsibilities
  • Provides cashiering operations support functions that include balancing and reconciliation activities, as well as other duties, with efficiency and integrity: Post payments, balance monies, and prepare deposits along with respective reconciliations and reporting utilizing Illumia (Transact-CASHNet) POS System, PeopleSoft Student Financials, and the T2 parking system. Input daily student payments and departmental deposits
  • Provides in-person customer service answering a broad range of questions, analyzing students accounts, and processing transactions using available systems such as PeopleSoft and Illumia (Transact-CASHNet), both on the front-line and over the phone, with efficiency, integrity, and quality: Provides in-person customer service at the main cashiering windows. Analyzes student accounts on the student financial system using general knowledge of State and University policies and procedures and basic accounting knowledge
  • Assists with uncleared collection reconciliation. Assists with cashiering system updates and changes. Participates in testing cashiering system interface with the student information system.

Compensation

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.
  • Hiring Rate: The hiring rate for this position is $4,037 (Step 1) per month.
  • CSU Classification Salary Range: The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $4,037 (Step 1) - $5,881 (Step 20) per month.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The ideal candidate demonstrates excellent interpersonal and communication skills, enabling effective collaboration across departments and delivery of high-quality customer service. They possess strong organizational abilities, take ownership of assignments, and are proficient in automated financial systems and PC software. With a solid understanding of complex rules, regulations, and generally accepted accounting principles, they can perform accounting functions accurately and efficiently. Experience with cashiering and cash handling is preferred. This individual thrives in a team environment, supports colleagues, and adapts to rotating duties, varied schedules, and evolving workplace needs. They embrace change, promote new policies and procedures, and are equally capable of working independently with minimal supervision.

Education and Experience

  • Equivalent to three years of progressively responsible financial record-keeping experience required.

  • Bachelor's degree in business or accounting preferred.
