Job Description Summary
Responsible for the overall financial management of an assigned grant portfolio and other financial matters of the school/center. Manages proposal development, budget development and related pre-award activities for diverse sponsor portfolio. Manage post award activities including account set up, monitor and review of all sponsored projects expenditures including fund projections. Monitor and enforce compliance with sponsor guidelines and meet with principal investigators to discuss and advise on any financial issues related to their portfolio. Actively participates in specific projects and will be greatly involved in more complicated grants including training grants and program project with multiple sub-contracts.

Duties/Job Responsibilities:
The School of Arts and Sciences is seeking a new Grants Manager. The successful candidate for the Grants Manager position will have the ability to work with, and the desire to learn from, management and experienced co-workers. SAS Finance staff is committed to supporting the academic mission of the School and the University by adding value through our work, finding solutions to operational challenges, and helping to prepare the School for tomorrow. The Grants Manager B will be assigned to the David Rittenhouse Labs (DRL) Regional Business Office and will report directly to the Manager of Finance.
The position will have the following responsibilities: Manage proposal development process, budget development and related pre-award issues for a diverse sponsor portfolio. Assist with all aspects of proposal submission and necessary follow-up to confirm proper acceptance by sponsor. Apply knowledge of federal and non-federal sponsor policy and guidance. Manage post-award processes including monitoring and review of all charges to sponsored projects, reconciliation of accounts, sub award management, and production of monthly financial reports for Principal Investigators, including fund projections etc for a high volume portfolio. Monitor compliance with sponsor guidelines. Routinely meet with Principal Investigators to discuss and advise on financial and other administrative related issues related to their research budgets to ensure compliance of protocol submission. Perform ad hoc assignments and tasks when needed.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and 5 to 7 years of pre and post award experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
- Experience with NSF, DOE and other federal granting agencies is required. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Adobe applications and Business Objects.
- Familiarity with UPENN sponsored research policies and related financial systems is a plus.
- The Grants Manager B position requires a candidate who exhibits an engaged and responsible attitude and possesses the ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and within a team. We are seeking a candidate possessing a pro-active work style with strong follow-up skills and the ability and desire to add value to the sponsored research enterprise. This position requires the ability to work well under pressure.
- The successful candidate should clearly demonstrate attention to detail, highly effective interpersonal skills, and the ability to enforce grant guidelines with constituents in a professional, diplomatic, and assertive manner.
- The successful candidate will exhibit a professional presence which will allow the candidate to take ownership of his/her business office responsibilities.
- An ability to react quickly in a deadline-driven environment is highly preferred.
- A successful candidate will possess an ability to switch gears depending on project deadlines and an ability to collaborate well with individuals of diverse backgrounds and skill sets within different areas of the School.
- The ability to work in a collaborative and responsive manner to answer questions and resolve discrepancies as well as remain flexible is also required.

Salary offers are made based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, and in alignment with salary ranges based on external market data for the job's level.
