Job Summary:
The School of Business at Eastern Washington University (EWU) invites applications for a full-time Clinical Faculty of Tax (Clinical Assistant or Clinical Associate) position to begin September 16, 2026.
This is a renewable, non-tenure-track position with responsibilities for teaching and service. The initial appointment for Clinical Assistant is a two (2)-year appointment; subsequent appointments shall be for two (2)-year terms. The initial appointment for Clinical Associate is a three (3)-year appointment; subsequent appointments shall be for one (1) three (3)-year term.
EWU is a regional, comprehensive institution where excellent teaching must be supplemented with an appropriate research program. The successful candidate will be expected to teach in-person and online courses to a varied student body. Additional responsibilities include advising students, participation in student-learning assessment, and service to the university, college, department, and the professions.

The School of Professional Accounting was established in 2021 as a spin-out from the former School of Business. The former School of Business was established in 1965. Both Schools of Business and Professional Accounting work together to deliver an accessible, experiential, and innovative education to prepare students for leadership and professional success in a dynamic global economy. Required Qualifications:
- Clinical Assistant:
- A masters degree in Accounting, Tax, or Business Administration from an AACSB-accredited institution with 18-graduate credit hours in accounting or tax; or a JD from an ABA accredited law school with appropriate academic preparation in taxation such as an LLM in taxation from an ABA accredited law school AND at least three (3) years of recent clinical experience in the areas of expertise
- Teaching experience
- Clinical Associate:
- A masters degree in Accounting, Tax, or Business Administration from an AACSB-accredited institution with 18-graduate credit hours in accounting or tax; or a JD from an ABA accredited law school with appropriate academic preparation in taxation such as an LLM in taxation from an ABA accredited law school AND at least six (6) years of relevant teaching and professional experience; evidence of supervisory experience (where relevant); superior contributions to the teaching program; as well as recognition for excellence in the professional field and innovation in the area of instruction
- Ability to teach Taxation courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels
- Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with students, faculty, and administration
- Demonstrated ability to apply a responsive and flexible approach that is supportive of the needs including universal access of our students, faculty, staff and the public
Preferred Qualifications:
- A licensed certified public accountant (CPA)
- Previous collegiate-level teaching is strongly preferred
- Experience of teaching courses in an online mode
- Evidence of teaching forensic accounting and/or accounting ethics
- Evidence of meeting Scholarly Academic designation under AACSB standards (e.g., recent publications in Accounting or Tax, or a recent Ph.D., DBA, JD)
- Evidence of ability in curriculum development
- Evidence of engagement with and service to the profession and field

Job Duties:
A Faculty Activity Plan will be developed by the end of the first quarter of the selected candidates appointment. Primary duties include in-person and online teaching; curriculum and course development; student academic advising; assessment of student learning; Staying current and maintaining relevance in instructional areas, maintaining professional credentials, maintaining strong relationships with industry partners; and participation in college-wide initiatives. Clinical faculty may participate in research or other scholarly or creative activities.
Teaching workload for Clinical Assistant Professors typically include:Teaching workload typically includes up to 45 credits of teaching across the academic year (mid-September through mid-June). However, teaching load might be reduced, subject to department needs and AACSB qualification status.
Teaching includes the following additional responsibilities as defined in the Eastern Washington University Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) 7.8.2(a) Teaching.
- All faculty are expected to be current in their field or discipline and maintain methods of professional practice or performance.
- Each faculty member is responsible for meeting all scheduled classes.
- Each faculty member is also responsible for planning, organizing, and informing students of the course content, texts, readings, assignments, attendance regulations and methods of evaluation including grading scales.
- Faculty are required to provide textbook and other course material adoption information to the EWU bookstore on the timeline established by the bookstore under the authority of RCW 28B.10.590. Faculty are responsible for scheduling and attending office hours to meet the needs of students as identified in department plans.
- They are also responsible for turning in grades according to the deadline established by the registrars office.
- Tenured, tenure-track faculty, and clinical professor are expected to advise students who are declared majors in their department and career opportunities in their disciplines.
Additional Responsibilities/Duties
- Contribute to program, college, and university committees.
- Participate in the leadership of local, state, and regional professional organizations.
- Collect, retain, and disseminate course and program data for accrediting bodies and to maintain professional standards.
- Collaborate with colleagues in utilization of creativity and best practice knowledge in curriculum development, classroom instruction, and student supervision.
- Mentor student portfolio development.
- Maintaining faculty qualification designation under AACSB standards.
- Collaborate with colleagues in utilization of creativity and best practice knowledge in curriculum development, classroom instruction, and student supervision.
- Additionally, all faculty are expected to engage in effective teaching and assessment of student learning.
Conditions of Employment:
The required start date for this position is 9/16/2026.To be considered eligible for appointment into the position, applicants must be available and able to start in the position no later than 9/16/2026.
