Job Description

The Associate Director of Gift planning cultivates relationships with alumni, friends, and parents to secure life income gifts and planned bequests, while serving as a technical resource on charitable giving options for donors, their advisors, volunteers, and advancement team members. Reporting to the Director of Gift Planning, the Associate Director of Gift Planning will manage a portfolio of 125 gift planning prospects and donors,, and work with the Director on all aspects of the planned giving program. The ADGP will also work with front line fundraisers and Advancement staff to promote the solicitation and closing of planned gifts. The ideal candidate will be a motivated front line fundraiser and collegial team player with superior attention-to-detail and follow through skills. Candidates should be comfortable explaining charitable gift annuities, charitable trusts, estate provisions and tax advantaged giving to a lay audience.

Major Areas of Responsibility

FUNDRAISING

Manage a portfolio of 125 prospects in addition to working with new leads from gift officers, marketing responses and phone inquiries. Collaborate with staff and volunteers to identify new prospects, and cultivate, solicit, and steward alumni, parents, friends, and widows. Responsibilities include solicitation of Annual Fund, Major and Planned Gifts as well as growing membership in the 1843 Legacy Society. Prioritize assigned portfolio prospects, meet or exceed outreach goals and conduct 100 visits annually, either in person or virtually. Research, strategize, call, and set up appointments to visit, qualify, cultivate, solicit, close, and steward prospects. Plan outreach, record communications and make travel arrangements, independently. Coordinate events to promote the 1843 Legacy Society, which may include programs on campus, in selected markets or virtual programs. Actively steward membership on an ongoing basis. Respond to marketing leads and inquiries for information on specific planned giving vehicles: prepare CGA illustrations and customized proposals. Customize statements of understanding for donor commitments and/or other appropriate documents outlining details of gifts to be made; complete timely visit activity reports, apprise appropriate colleagues of outcomes of meetings, and plan next steps; complete acknowledgment notes/letters and or other communications for visits, gifts, pledges and other relevant events. Participation in evening and weekend events locally and nationally.

PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT

Work with the Director of Gift Planning to establish a short and long-range marketing plan for successful solicitation of planned gifts. Collaborate with College Marketing & Communications and Advancement Colleagues to support engagement and stewardship of planned giving donors. Responsible for increasing solicitations of charitable gift annuities and coordinating with appropriate faculty and staff in-kind gifts. Support fundraising work of staff, as well as reunion and campaign volunteers by conducting training and education on various planned giving opportunities.

GIFT PLANNING ADMINISTRATION

The ADOGP serves as the team lead of charitable gift annuities and in-kind gifts. Prepares CGA illustrations using PG Calc and processes required paperwork for life income and in-kind gifts. Analyze data and prepare reports to inform program development.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree plus three years or more of major gifts/gift planning fundraising
Demonstrated track record in soliciting and closing 5-6 figure gifts.
A basic appreciation of asset based giving and the long term nature of gift planning
Ability to work well with a diverse range of constituents including but not limited to potential and existing donors, financial and legal advisers, trustees and other volunteers, and College senior staff and faculty.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Persistence and follow through.
Demonstrated tact and diplomacy in difficult or sensitive situations.
Ability to handle and keep information confidential regarding donors and gifts
Strong technology skills including proficiency in Google, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and experience with relational databases preferred.
Familiarity with development software packages, preferably Affinaquest/ Salesforce and PG Calc.
Master's Degree, a plus.
Understanding of CASE and CGP standards for gift planning programs.

4-7 years of proven gift planning experience in a higher education setting and/or demonstrated success soliciting and closing major and planned gifts preferred.
Working knowledge of basic financial and estate planning concepts; including gift planning vehicles and tax laws as they relate to philanthropy.

Salary: The salary range for the Associate Director of Gift Planning is $74,001-$84,000 commensurate with experience.
