Salary/Pay Range: $ 27.00 - 34.00 hourly. Compensation will be commensurate upon experience and qualifications. This position is Non-Exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) overtime provisions.

    Because this appointment is temporary, you will not be eligible to receive all of the benefits normally provided to members of the university staff under the standard University of Colorado benefits programs. You are not eligible to receive paid vacation leave, medical, or retirement benefits. However, you are eligible to accrue sick leave and you will accrue 0.034 hours of sick leave per hour worked.

    Summary

    The Payroll Specialist supports the Human Resources Operations team during the PeopleSoft Time & Labor implementation. This position will take on various tasks related to the legacy timekeeping system and other duties related to this project implementation. This position requires a strong awareness of data integrity, attention to confidentiality, and the ability to navigate complex HRIS systems and processes in support of campus-wide HR functions.

    Essential Functions

    The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

    (95%) Human Resources Operations
    • Uses Oracle PeopleSoft HR system HCM to provide accurate and timely entry of appointments into the HCM system for payroll, and ensure accuracy and compliance with hiring, promotional, and additional compensation rules and guidelines for faculty, university staff, and classified staff appointments.
    • Completes background and misconduct checks for job candidates.
    • Updates non-person profiles and person profiles and other data entry and clean up for effective launch of Time and Labor.Completes required quality assurance testing for Time & Labor project.
    • Coordinates and processes employment change letters related to the Time & Labor project, such as changes to pay roll frequency or pay rate.
    • Executes data quality audits (e.g., I-9 reverifications, payroll registers, pay change reports, timecard follow-up), proactively correcting discrepancies.
    • Maintains data integrity through regular system reconciliation and by identifying systemic issues for continuous improvement.
    • Supports operational surges by processing new hires, separations, and other workforce transactions in collaboration with the HR Operations team.

    (5%) Other Duties
    • Contribute to ad hoc HR initiatives and special projects requiring collaboration, research, or administrative execution.
    • May conduct training for the launch of Time & Labor.

    Qualifications
    • A high school diploma or equivalent.
    • Demonstrated experience supporting human resources or administrative operations in a complex organization.
    • Experience working with HRIS systems such as PeopleSoft or equivalent.
    • Experience working in a timekeeping application such as Time & Labor or equivalent.
    • Proficiency using Microsoft Excel (including formulas and pivot tables) and comfort navigating multiple systems simultaneously.
    • Strong organizational skills, accuracy in data entry and audits, and the ability to manage multiple and shifting deadlines.
    • Professional communication skills and a customer-service mindset when handling sensitive or confidential matters.
    • Ability to identify inefficiencies in administrative processes and recommend solutions.
