Position Number 51161: The Huffington Department of Earth Sciences at Southern Methodist University seeks a non-tenure-track full-time lecturer to conduct teaching and teaching related activities. Candidates with interest in pedagogy and curricular issues related to the earth systems sciences including laboratory experiences for undergraduates are particularly encouraged to apply. The expected teaching load will be six courses per academic year. Additionally, the successful candidate will be responsible for organizing the geology teaching collection as well as expanding shared laboratory materials and exercises across the Earth Sciences BS and BA curriculums. Faculty are expected to provide inclusive learning and mentoring to a diverse student body and must enjoy working with undergraduate students at the introductory level and within the major. The department engages in fundamental and applied research using quantitative, measurement-based approaches focused on Earth system interactions with current specialties in geochemistry, biogeochemical cycling, tectonics, environmental and climate studies, life and its history, remote sensing, seismology and seismo- acoustics, and natural and anthropogenic hazard and risk. All faculty are committed to full participation in the educational mission of the department; this includes teaching courses at the undergraduate and graduate level to provide professional training in the Earth Sciences in a liberal arts environment. This appointment is for one academic year and is renewable. The position preferred start date is January 2, 2024.

Qualifications:
A Ph.D. in some discipline of geology is required.
