TBD; occasional early morning, evening, and weekend hours; this is a temporary position to end on or before June 30, 2018 with a possibility of renewal on an annual basis if program needs exist.

Job Summary:
California State University, Fullerton is searching for a Performing Arts Master Electrician (Performing Arts Technician III) for the ARTS- Theatre and Dance department. The Performing Arts Master Electrician (Performing Arts Technician III) should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

Provides technical support in multiple production specialties that include conventional lighting, intelligent/automated lighting, special effects, and production video/projection for Department of Theatre and Dance classes, productions, showcases, special events, and workshops. Participates in weekly production planning and coordination with faculty, staff, and students in order to determine the needs of multiple productions in multiple venues. Manages the lighting budget, which requires vendor management. Orders equipment and materials that allow for the implementation and completion of the production objectives in the above added specialties.

Maintains inventories and organization of stage-lighting, projection, and special effects equipment and supplies in all storage, work, and classroom spaces. Plans and maintains schedules and supervises work assignments for graduate students, student assistants, over hire technicians and student crewmembers. Supervises all preparatory stage-lighting rigging sessions, focusing sessions and tech/dress rehearsals; technical rehearsals, dress rehearsals, performances, and strikes. Supports classroom instruction by performing demonstrations in the lighting lab and Cad lab. Leads training sessions for lighting students. Provides technical leadership and creative consultation to staff and students on production issues. Maintains and repairs conventional lighting instruments and automated fixtures. Updates equipment maintenance logs on each of the automated lighting fixtures. Orders and coordinates the replacement of all incandescent performing arts center lamps.

Provides technical leadership and supervision to staff and students for Department of Theatre and Dance special events. Coordinates training of all aerial lift equipment including control room handicap lifts. Updates equipment maintenance logs on aerial lift equipment and control room handicap lifts. Teaches staff, and students specialized training on new lighting equipment and software. Other duties as assigned.


Essential Qualifications:
Bachelors degree from an accredited four-year college or university in theatre, dance, music, or business with a minimum of two year of experience working for a theater, repertory or stock company engaged in an applicable production specialty such as costume construction, stage and set construction, lighting production, or sound and audio production.

Thorough and specialized knowledge and experience in applicable production specialty. Advanced knowledge of design theory and principles with the ability to translate design specifications, blueprints or drawings into costume, scene, lighting or sound production and effects. Ability to independently manage production support projects and productions by breaking segments into working units that coincide with production needs. Ability to work on more complex projects and designs. Ability to work with more difficult materials and equipment, including the ability to select and use the most appropriate materials to meet production needs. Ability to use the more complex features of applicable software packages for the production specialty. Ability to plan the layout and use of work areas. Thorough knowledge of safety requirements and standards related to production support specialty and stage operations, as well as the ability to train others on safety measures to ensure compliance with codes and regulations. Comprehensive knowledge of historical periods for design and construction of materials and effects related to the applicable production specialty. Ability to work independently, multi-task, and prioritize production and department needs. Possession of time management skills with the ability to determine priorities and meet deadlines in a fast paced production environment. Knowledge of the principles, methods, and information related to performing support services. Possession of interpersonal communication skills, as well as knowledge of the materials and supplies related to curricular support and their uses. Ability to plan, organize, and schedule work flow.

Special Working Conditions:
Works at heights with ladders and/or on cat walks, works on uneven surfaces such as raked stages, requires heavy lifting up to 75 pounds. Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required.
