Director

The Davis Center (cultural center)

Williams College seeks a visionary leader as Director of The Davis Center, a cultural center with an emphasis on social justice education, intergroup relations, and inclusive academic engagement. The Director reports to the Vice President for Strategic Planning and Institutional Diversity, and will oversee and guide The Davis Centers legacy of advising, creating safe spaces for students from historically underrepresented groups, empowering affinity group leaders (representing various identities, namely race/ethnicity, religion, gender, sexuality, class), and inviting all students, staff, and faculty into dialogue about issues of diversity and inclusion. In addition, the Director will continue to expand the Centers collaboration with faculty and academic units to foster innovative curriculum, pedagogy and programming campus-wide. The Directors duties include but not limited to:

  • Providing vision for the Davis Center in its relationship to the college and to the broader academic community
  • Initiating and guiding Davis Center programs
  • Mentoring students and serving as an advocate for underrepresented students throughout the college;
  • Collaborating with the Faculty Fellow and others, including the Deans Office, the Office of Student Life, and the Office for Strategic Planning and Institutional Diversity;
  • Responsibility for leadership and professional development of four full-time staff;
  • Overseeing office operations, including budget management.

This position is a full-time, year-round appointment. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. A Ph.D or equivalent terminal degree in an appropriate field is preferred, though candidates with a Masters degree will be considered; five years of experience in relevant administrative work and/or teaching in higher education is required. The successful candidate will have a record of strategic thinking, planning, and working on diversity issues; demonstrated knowledge of and experience in serving underrepresented students in higher education; well-developed collaborative skills, and successful experience managing staff.
